Ren-Ruhr 2025 – Countdown to the World University Games

Germany will host one of the world’s largest multi-sport events, the World University Games (FISU World University Games), in 2025. This major event, named “Ren-Ruhr 2025,” will take place in the cities of Bochum, Essen, Duisburg, Mülheim an der Ruhr, and Hagen in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).

8,500 Athletes to Compete from July 16 to 27, 2025

Approximately 8,500 university athletes from around the world are expected to participate. Competitions will be held in numerous sports including athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, judo, and tennis, with athletes competing both individually and in teams. The event offers a significant international platform for student-athletes.

More Than Sports: A Meeting Point for Education and Culture

The core vision of Ren-Ruhr 2025 is centered on the theme “A Meeting Point for Sport, Education, and Culture.” The event aims not only to host sporting competitions but also to promote cultural exchange, tolerance, and global cooperation among university students. Various cultural programs, concerts, exhibitions, and dialogue events will be organized during the games.

Sustainability and Modern Infrastructure

The event has been planned with an environmentally conscious and sustainable approach. Most competition venues have been prepared through modernization of existing facilities, avoiding new constructions to reduce environmental impact and lower costs. Transportation systems have also been optimized specifically for the event.

Volunteers and Universities Play Active Roles

Thousands of volunteers from across Germany and abroad are expected to take part during the event. Participating universities will play active roles in organization, logistics, accommodation, and cultural activities. Additionally, academic seminars, workshops, and youth meetings will be held.

Economic and Tourism Benefits for the Region

Ren-Ruhr 2025 is expected to provide significant economic benefits, especially for the host cities, in tourism, accommodation, transportation, and service sectors. The influx of tens of thousands of sports fans and visitors will also boost the local economy.

Germany’s Experience as a Host

Germany has previously hosted numerous major international events such as the FIFA World Cup and the European Athletics Championships. This experience provides a solid foundation for the successful and smooth execution of Ren-Ruhr 2025.
